“Digital practice” residency is about “media art” which has various definitions and scopes. Participating artists and curators discuss the history, definition, perspective, and their positions in media art, and create works. The purpose of the residency is to talk about the idea of ‘new media’ and history of it, and to visualize the technology from our heads as well as presenting it as an art work. Artists here dive deep into the subject, think seriously as ‘media artists’, and look for a new way to tangle tech and art. A new approach to “immortal or temporary digital images (Hyun-seok Kim),” “gendered machine object trying to break from the gender and its law of movement(Youjin Jeon),” “sound art seeing music from its border with non-music(Haram Choi),” and “animation reestablishing itself beyond a specific genre and media(Junseo Hahm)” will be shown at the exhibition. I went to Barim, the my favorite alternative space in Gwangju, to participate in one of Artist-talk programs last week. (I am a kind of one of supporters corp.) the topics were about sound art and its various perspectives. the two speakers had different ideas on Sounds art and fine art. It was really interesting to know two different perspectives because two artists (Youjin Jeon, Haram Choi) had worked in a different background. Jeon studied computer programming and has worked in a field of sound art, Haram Choi has worked in a field of music which audiences usually used to listen. Following their presentation, then we talked about differences of Sound/Music / Engaging audiences / the necessity of re-enacting sounds..etc.

After the talk, installation was simulated like above pictures. the opening is coming up on 23th(Sat), July!!! Can’t wait!! Stay tuned.
