Round Table – Organizer | The Social Media Chronicle of Art Organizations in the Digital Era (디지털 시대 문화기관의 소셜미디어 연대기)

On October 13, 2018, representatives from renowned institutions such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, M+ Hong Kong, Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, and Korea’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art participated. Also in attendance were Artsy along with social media expert Mar Dixon.

I organized the sold-out roundtable “The Social Media Chronicle of Art Organizations in the Digital Era” with support from The Asia Culture Center (ACC).

The event drew an enthusiastic full-capacity audience – for which I felt grateful.

The aim was examining global arts organizations’ social media strategies for engaging digitally-savvy 21st century audiences. I hoped the lineup of online promotions specialists sharing first-hand practices would prove practical and insightful.

Discussion encompassed: museum branding and social media pre- and post-venue launch; the interplay between social platforms and the expanding online art market; leveraging over 10 years of institutional archives for educational purposes; digital experiments and new media content case studies.

The ACC conceived the “Chronicle” theme and this convening as an opportunity to collectively contemplate ideas advancing how cultural entities can actively harness social media in the digital age, rather than be defined by the platforms themselves
