Digital Engagement at Rubin Museum of Art

1. Foundations of Museums & Digital Culture

Project Title: Digital Engagement at Rubin Museum of Art

Class: INFO 679 – Museums & Digital Culture

Project Description: For the final project, I designed a new program named #Rubinism for better digital engagement at the Rubin Museum of Art, aiming to turn short-term program participants into repeat visitors. The main goal of the final project is to develop strategies for consolidating the Rubin Museum’s public program attendees.

Methods: My presentation discusses the challenges I discovered from observing the museum site and conducting interviews with visitors. After identifying the challenges and opportunities, I introduced a new digital engagement program based on the museum’s existing yoga program. I outlined what role is needed for completing each task and how it would be funded. Finally, I completed an entire grant application based on the final project.

My Role: I am the single author of this work.

Learning Outcome Achieved: Foundations of Museums & Digital Culture

Rationale: This project introduced me to the theoretical aspects of museums in the digital age and a current digital trend. The field observation and interview process allowed me to conceptualize a solution to that challenge and explore how museums interact with visitors through exhibitions and educational programs using digital platforms. The grant writing project required me to identify the project’s target audience, determine practical goals for the project, design an evaluation method and determine what roles were needed on the team to complete the project. The project also required that I be able to showcase why my project is important for enhancing digital engagement with audiences and how it brings benefit to the museum.
